See, I'm totally the other way and think it incredibly odd when clerks ask "Do you want your receipt?"

Of course I do. Why would I walk off with no proof of my transaction, and no proof I was charged correctly during the exchange?

Because a donut and coffee just isn't that serious...

Well, for one, the determination of the "seriousness" of the transaction probably best belongs to the person actually in it.

And secondly, for a person in the habit of receiving receipts at the conclusion of a transaction, it is indeed, odd, not to get one.

*this is not meant as a defense of the behavior of the woman in the thread, but generally speaking.

Question for you. So if you bought a 30 cent donut at Dunkin Donuts, you would ask for a receipt? Why?

So based on what I'm reading here, you're saying that folks who haven't worked retail, should, so they can see what it's like. That way, they won't lose their cool because they would have more of an understanding of what it's like dealing with a rude customer. That's what I'm reading.

I call bullshit on that, too. Folks are going to be rude as hell regardless. There are several people who have never worked retail and they wouldn't treat somebody the way that bitch in the video treated dude.
You're taking what we're saying way too seriously.

And yes, it's true that SOME people gain a better understanding of something once they've been through it themselves.

Which is why it's reasonable to ask the person in the transaction "would you like a copy of your receipt?" It's important to some people to get the receipt. To others, it's just more clutter in their wallets or pocketbooks. Different strokes.
