Ebay non-receipt of item
I am so angry right now at ebay and paypal. I did not receive an item from a seller and they sent me a letter saying:
We have determined that the seller is at fault in this matter but
regret to inform you that we were unable to recover any funds
from the seller's account and we apologize for any inconvenience
this situation may have caused.
WHAT!? I now don't get the item that I wanted AND I lost out on the money I paid. I thought this was the whole reason to use paypal. Anyone else have had this problem? Is it common?

*nod* this happened to me once.
Have fun. Always nice to know you paid for an item that was shipped to the wrong address and you'll never see nor get refunded for.

It happened to me as well - I don't know if the item was ever shipped (and if it was, if it went to the wrong address or something), but by the time I realized it had been a really long time (yes, I tend to be absentminded and not realize how long it's been), the seller was no longer a registered user, and I really couldn't do anything about it.
It was a definite learning experience, to say the least.

It happened to me with a pair of pink uggs last year right when they had first come out. I ordered them as a gift for my sister and they never came.
Good luck!!!

Sigh don’t even get me started on eBay. My account got suspend because of failure to pay. Well it didn’t help that the seller wouldn’t accept paypal and would only notify the winner of the auction by email how to pay. Well I won but the email never came. I emailed the seller no response. I contacted eBay no response. Nothing. Next thing I know I was neg reped and my account was suspended. I never received an email with payment instructions.

did you pay via credit card through Paypal? If so, contact your credit card company stat to reverse the charges. If you paid through a bank account, try contacting your bank to see if they'll do anything.
Is the seller still selling on ebay?
Keep on pressing. You'll have to rant and rave, it seems, in this situation. File mail fraud claims against them. If you go over to the ebay discussion boards you'll find or can be directed to if you ask, one of several threads that lists everything you can do.
When they're being investigated by the gov't for mail fraud, sometimes a refund will come quickly

They aren't registered anymore. The did send a notice that they had made a mailing label. I guess that was to make me wait a little longer. Maybe that could be considered mail fraud...
I just really wanted to let out a good rant. It was only $15 and I found the item from another seller and have already received it within a week. I hadn't had any problems with ebay before and haven't had any since. It did make me scale back on bidding for a little while though.

I'd listen to kddani about the credit card fraud. I'd also file a report with the post office for postal fraud - a felony.
Paypal and ebay can only get away with this type of thing if no one does anything about it!
I had a "mild" case of identity fraud last summer (yeah, like a "mild" heart attack!), and even the threat of postal/credit card fraud had ebay rushing about. I got my satisfaction, without having to file any charges.

Damn guys, thanks for the warning. Over the years, I've bout so much Delta Sig stuff, Patriots stuff, Family Guy stuff, an soccer stuff, hell even my ipod a couple weeks back. I've never had a problem, so I keep telling everyone how safe and easy ebay is. I think I'm going to keep a closer eye and really check on the seller and ratinsg before I do it again.

Okay, ebay bought Pay Pal!
So neither will actually back you up! Notice how many sellers wont take pay pal? Getting to snarky and no back up from them.
I have been very lucky, whew, but it is still a buyer beware situation isnt it?
Just watch out for pay pal and ebay saying they will help you!!!!!!!
Only game in town!
On reference, leave a scathing and explain why in x numbers of letters of course!
Ebayers will get the message and spread it!

It does no good if the mmbers just close the account they have a bad feedback on and open a new one fresh. On mine, there was perfect feedback for months, then around the same time I bid there are 20 negative feedbacks. They just built up a good name then screwed people all over the place. Now they can come back with a new name and all is good again?!

It's bad enough when you don't get the item you paid for, but it's even worse when the deadbeat seller is your own sorority sister.
It happened to me about 5 or 6 years ago. I had paid $30 or so for an Alpha Gam Gift Pack (misc stuff that she'd collected as a member over the years), and didn't get the item after quite some time.
I contacted her through email, and she said that she was in the process of moving...blah blah blah so she was very busy, and that she would send it to me ASAP -- she knew I was a sister so she even made it clear that she would "never screw over a sister like that".
Then the emails stopped, luckily I had saved all correspondence and eBay messages. Unfortunately this was before the advent of PayPal, so I had sent a cashiers check -- saved the receipt of that too. eBay had done an investigation, but unfortunately I got the same message you did, roqueemae.
So...I contacted my IHQ and told them about my situation. She was from Western Michigan, a chapter which had just recently closed at that time-- and she was considered one of our "lost sisters" because they didn't have up to date info for her. She wasn't even in good standing with the Fraternity.
After a while, I realized there was nothing I could do -- I had to just suck up my loss of $30, I guess.
So imagine my surprise when I get a Priority Mail box filled with this Gift Pack 6 MONTHS AGO. Mind you this was 5 or 6 years ago.
I guess she finally got settled down.

Humph... Ebay...
The last thing I bought off of Ebay was a set of 5 clothing items for $15.00, plus shipping. All were supposed to be stain, rip, hole, tear free in like-new condition. But, when they arrived, the 2 pairs of jeans had inch-long holes on the butt by the pockets! The other three items were very faded and a completely different size than what was listed.
I wrote the seller a note saying that I wanted to know what she was going to do to rectify the situation. I was polite, but very firm. I told her that she had completely misrepresented the items and was violating the auction rules. I stated that her account (of over 1200 sales) could be shut down if Ebay has to investigate the transaction. Within an hour, she had completely refunded my money with the shipping included. She had also had good feedback. Then, the same time my sale went through, she also had a few other remarks from people having problems.
Ebay can be wonderful, but it can also REALLY suck.
