Sophomore Rushing at Texas

There are several groups at UT, such as Texas Sweethearts, Wrangler Darlin's, Texas Spirits, that definitely give you that "sorority-feel." As everyone else has said, recruitment at Texas is VERY competitive and VERY difficult, and even more so if you are not a freshman or do not have a lot of close upperclassman friends in the sororities that can pull for you. If rush does not work out, I suggest you look into these spirit groups, because they are a very good alternative if you are looking for all the aspects of a sorority. Good luck!

Nobody is able to tell you whether you will get a bid from any of the 14 NPC sororities at the University of Texas. Yep, sadly this still exists. What's funny, is I was always told the "Big 6" were the first 6 sororities on campus, but who knows. Over time, some chapters have grown bigger than other chapters, etc. It is what it is.

What's interesting to me is that there would be any Sophomore or Junior at Texas who hasn't been exposed to at least ONE girl in a class that was a member of a chapter (any sorority), unless you're a transfer. I mean, your friends CAN help you, but you can't bank on them. Now, I've also seen it, especially with sophomores, where the friend is doing everything she can to pull the girl through, but ultimately, it comes down to quota and the good of the house.

Although they are very old chapters, the Big Six has nothing to do with when they were established. It's got everything to do with with perceived status on the campus. It's always been that way and probably always will be. It has nothing to do with numbers either. With rfm, some of the non-big six chapters have gotten larger, because they are the ones who are left with larger pnm pools and also end up with quota additions. In some cases, smaller means more selective. It is what it is.

What's funny is when I was at Texas, it was always who was fighting for the 6th spot. It always seemed to be someone different every year. It's amazing how some things never change...

I think too, and I hope I can I can speak for us, we have been really happy with the process at Texas. At least I know I, and my alumni friends, have. I understand the selective process. It's a fine line once you get going. However, even with RFM, you still have to KEEP the girls and make them happy to be there. If they aren't happy, they'll leave, and you're back where you started. There is being selective, then there's being on page 3 of your Bid List.
