Does anyone remember back to oh, say ten years ago, when people were freaking out during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal about oral sex being discussed because of the "I did not have sex" comment and all these kids were going to do it and it was going to be an epidemic? This wasn't the abstinence only era yet, but it is unfortunate that there's nothing discussed in between the spectrum of intercourse and abstinence. It also isn't just pregnancy, but STD awareness is important.
You know 1st-3rd bases...
On the OOPS babies I kind of understand, and I kind of don't. Completely anecdotal but I have a friend who cannot get pregnant for health reasons, and if she did she'd have an abortion because a pregnancy could kill her, or the baby (if brought to term) could have serious issues. Since she is young no doctor will consider a tubal ligation

but she's likely to lose her other ovary so it will probably be a moot point. She takes, and has taken medication that would cause birth defects, and she was forced to be on hormonal birth control as a teenager to prevent pregnancy, even though she wasn't sexually active. Not everyone has a life threatening situation, but if she can avoid getting pregnant with various methods (abstinence, more than one form of protection, non penetrating activities) it makes it hard for me to accept all these "oops" when if someone really doesn't want to be pregnant (and maybe some people *do* want to be pregnant), they can prevent it from happening. I'm only referring to consensual sex here.
We've got user error, "it can't happen to me syndrome," lack of education, economics (though I don't know anyone who has been turned away by Planned Parenthood), and who knows what else at work here.
Oh and Bristol Palin is the new ambassador for the Candie's Foundation for teen pregnancy awareness and prevention.
