I agree that it most likely doesn't hurt you to be involved, but it does not guarantee you anything. Every chapter is looking for different things.

Oh yes, it definitely doesn't guarantee anything. But we are always trying to stack the deck in our favor, so to speak. Recruitment, job interviews, dating, climbing the corporate ladder, etc.
