When I was going through rush, one girl spent our entire conversation talking about why she was saving herself for marriage and asking if I was doing the same. Awkward! I definitely agree that sexuality isn't a topic for recruitment. It's like defining yourself solely by just one part of who you are.
And if a group is one that wouldn't want you just for that, then you'll probably be able to tell pretty quickly... people like that stick out like sore thumbs.
