LOS ANGELES January 31, 2008, 09:09 am ET · Britney Spears was taken from her home by ambulance early Thursday and escorted to a hospital by more than a dozen police officers as two helicopters followed overhead.
A Los Angeles police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, said the 26-year-old pop star was being taken to "get help" but did not give the ambulance's destination. The Los Angeles Times, citing unidentified authorities, said Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center to be placed on a "mental evaluation hold." Center spokesman Mark Wheeler declined to comment to The Associated Press, citing privacy laws.

I do feel really bad for her, because obviously I think everyone just wants her to get some freakin help already.....
=but= at the same time am I the only one who feels like it's such a freaking waste of LA's resources by constantly having the police by her house, or escorting her places, or whatever? Seriously. Don't they have more significant crimes to be fighting or something?
I hope she doesn't do anything bad to herself, but she needs to want to get the help she needs to get better.... obviously loosing her kids has not made her hit that "rock bottom".

No. I think our resources could be better used by fighting drug dealers, better educating our students and ensuring all children have appropriate health care. IMHO, it's such a waste of money to escort her everywhere and, my God, protect the air space above her ambulance. She should pick up the tab, not the taxpayers.

By now, there is no excuse for her NOT to be under mandatory psychiatric detainment, but I don't know California's laws about that. It's not fun to 302 or whatever someone, but it really does need to be done.
The very best thing that could happen to Britney would be for her to check into the psycho ward of Betty Ford or wherever, and disappear for at least six months or a year, then take the time to learn who her children really are as people, not possessions, and if does she really want to be a celebrity. Then, if she did, go ever so quietly into a studio, and make a surprise splash in about two years.
And if she doesn't get that psychiatric help, then she's a ticking time bomb. I would so hate to have my every move photographed, I can't help but feel pity for her. Yet, t*p makes an excellent point, and maybe the Crisis Services of LA County need to reconsider how they're going to handle Britney's continued pleas for help.

Hopefully this latest trip to the hospital will get her the help she needs. It isn't even funny or shocking to hear about anything that she does anymore. It's just sad.
I feel sorry for her kids. I have heard that the only contact she's allowed to have with them is by phone. It's sad because they're very young and they need a mom.
