Bottom line: douche bag did not cooperate with the police. Whether or not the police officer is right, if the request is simple, e.g., "stand up," you do it, no questions asked. This kid instead screamed at the police, passively resisted by laying on the ground, and sure, after the fact, he said he "was leaving."
I'm not sure what the patriot act has to do with police officers removing a trespassor from private property. Maybe you could fill me in on that one?

Exactly. My cousin was on the police force and later a SWAT Team in Nashville. I have heard some pretty amazing stories as a result.
The most important thing I learned is that you never know who has a gun. There are serial murderers who have given up without a fight, and there are cases where an officer was shot and killed or injured for life on a simple traffic stop.
I also remember being a student at Texas and a large portion of the student population walking around with a chip on their shoulder for anyone in authority for no good reason whatsoever. I shudder to think how big that group is at our fine instititutions in Kalifornia.
Last week a 92 year old woman shot 3 police officers.
Do you want the police to assume this student is unarmed and let him have control of this situation? Do you want to support his wife and kids when he gets shot dead because you think the police are too brutal and do not make accomodations for certain people because they are "little college students" or sweet little old ladies?
You all saw the video, but what is there to this situation- specifically and in the big picture- that was not so readily visible.
As for the "Patriot Act" comment- that sickens me. That is a tricky piece of legislation, no doubt, but invoking it to validate one's own bad behavior strikes me as incredibly immature and stupid.
Maybe this incident will beat some sense into the kid- but I won't hold my breath.

But the circumstances of this story are pretty crazy. I've read that the lady had been protecting herself due to recent spats in the neighborhood. She shot the three police officers while they were executing a search warrant at her residence. The search was a mistake and they went into the wrong house and when they came in she started popping.
Not to say that she was right but it's not like she was just sitting there tagging cops with bullets.

Very true. I just wanted to make the point you never know who has a gun- or their intentions.

Obviously you didn't watch the video. He wasn't tased for "no reason." The police officers attempted to secure his cooperation by requesting it, he refused and instead screamed at them.

actually i did watch the video. did you read the article i previously posted a few posts up?
http://www.dailybruin.com/news/articles.asp?id=38958
here it is again, in case you missed it the first time.
he was leaving when a cop decided to expidite the process by putting his hands on him. he tells the cop to get his hands off of him, and this ends up with him being tased.
"get up or you'll get tased again."
sounds like he was on the ground AFTER he got tased.

Yes, and then he refused to get up... after he was tased.
Disobeying a police officer is stupid. Stupidty should be punished. It's just a young punk with a chip on his shoulder for authority figures.
Had he cooperated, or hell.. had he either produced the ID or gone to get his ID and followed the rules, would he have ever been tased at all? Nope.

and it was incredibly stupid for the cop to tase him in the first place. thus someone's probably going to lose their job, and someone else is going to get paid very well from this ordeal.
he was already on his way out (possibly to get his ID, even) when they tased him, so yea.....that was pretty stupid on the cop's part.
LMAO @ getting up and being cooperative after getting tased for no good reason
