UCLA kid gets tased at a library. It was a late night, he was asked to show ID. He didn't have ID. Was asked to leave...blah blah blah then gets tased. LOS ANGELES (AP) - A UCLA police officer shocked a student with a stun gun at a campus library after he refused repeated requests to show student identification and wouldn't leave, police said. The student, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, was shocked Tuesday at about 11 p.m. as police did a routine check of student IDs at the University of California, Los Angeles Powell Library computer lab. "This is a long-standing library policy to ensure the safety of students during the late-night hours," said UCLA Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein. She said police tried to escort Tabatabainejad, 23, out of the library after he refused to provide identification. Tabatabainejad instead encouraged others at the library to join his resistance, and when a crowd began to gather, police used the stun gun on him, Greenstein said. Tabatabainejad was arrested for resisting and obstructing a police officer and later released on his own recognizance. He declined to comment Wednesday night. The incident was recorded on another student's camera phone and showed Tabatabainejad screaming while on the floor of the computer lab. It was the third incident in a month in which police behavior in the city was criticized after amateur video surfaced. The other two involved the Los Angeles Police Department. Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams promised an investigation. "The safety of our campus community is of paramount importance to me," Abrams said in a statement. |
My political stances aside, I'm sort of interested in the fact that so many people whipped out their phones to document this. From a journalism POV...
Oh, and why would YouTube delete this? There's a bunch of other associated videos of tazings/police arrests? I don't use the site enough to know why. |

Was he wearing a hoodie? That'll get you tased too. |
That video made me ill.
I think its ashame how people in uniform often abuse their power. |
If I was a cop I'd have continued tazing him just for being a little bitch. Seriously. Shut up about the Patriot Act you little pussy. If you stand up and walk out with the nice policemen, you won't get tazered again.
Giant tool. |
He was an ass for not following the rules: If you're at the library late at night, you must have a student ID. So they ask him to leave and he goes limp and becomes a greater ass. However, multiple tasings is just the cops being stupid. And didn't they tase him with cuffs on? Isn't that big no-no?
|
Aaaah, it's been awhile since I graduated college but I'm glad to see the egocentricity and delusions of entitlement in some students are still alive and well...
|
apparently, there are some conflicting stories on this issue.
i heard he was in the process of leaving when a cop pushed him, he responded by screaming "don't touch me", then he gets tazed. LOL @ people expecting him to get up nicely after being tazed. |
exactly, that cop should be fired, and everyone in the library or even still awake should be expelled, you know, to be fair
|
I dunno, I'd have to be there to understand the full situation.
Although I do have to say I was annoyed by him screaming THIS IS YOUR PATRIOT ACT!!!! Ugh shut the hell up. |
I'd like to see the cops be able to stand up after getting tased.
|
I would've tazed him, too, for being an obnoxious tool.
|
dude this is screwed up. i just don't see how a person could "resist" SOOOOOOOO much during an ID check at a school library to where they warranted being tazed...

exactly, i'd like to see any of us getting up after tazed. would you take the university to court? |

My husband did. As training for his department, they are required to be tazed. Everyone in his department has gone through it. He says it sucks and does incapacitate you momentarily but you shake it off and get back to work. |
