Rec Crisis!
I'm in the midst of recruitment and I'm having a great time! I decided to go through recruitment at the last minute, so I had to scramble for recommendations. I managed to secure 1-2 recs for every house except one. Well, I went to the no-rec house today and LOVED it. I know it's only the first day and my opinion may change, but right now it's my #1 house. I'm so upset with myself for not getting a recommendation.
My school isn't extremely competitive, but recommendations are important. Would it be appropriate to find someone to write me a rec RIGHT NOW? The chapter might get it by Thursday. I really love this house and I don't want the rec situation to mess up my chances :/

It is probably too late, unless you find an alum today and they send it electronically and the chapter has the time to read it before they vote. There is the off chance that the chapter would ask one of their advisors to write you a rec., but as you now realize, it is not a good situation to get yourself into.

Yes, please do. I am so angry at myself. I wish I had decided to rush earlier so I could have contacted an alumni board in my city. The only women I know in this sorority are actives at another university, so I'm not sure if their recommendation would even count.
I do have a question, though. Let's say there are 1,000 girls rushing and XYZ can invite back 500 after the first day. Out of the 500 invitees, 50 girls had a full schedule and ranked XYZ too low to attend their party. Would XYZ get to invite another 50 girls who did not previously make the list?

To be practical, it's too late. Focus on what you can do going forward, not what you might have done in the past.
And like FSUZeta said, for others reading, heed this warning. While she didn't say it here (and maybe it wasn't the case at all) some girls pre-decide which houses it's important to have recs for and only focus on those. Then, voila! There's a house she really loves that didn't make the cut, effort-wise, while there was time to do so. If you're going to a school where recs are important, get them for EVERY chapter. Why self-limit when you haven't even attended a single party yet?
Let us know how it goes with your next round of invitations and if this house is on the list. Just for data's sake for us geeks.

Another thing: several girls in my recruitment group don't have recs at all or only have 1 or 2. So I guess that a) recs aren't as important as I thought or b) they will have unsuccessful recruitments. I will keep you updated.

Maybe when it's all over you can share with us what school you're at and how the first round of cuts went for you and the others, if you know.

Try not to worry about it. You can't do anything about it now. As far as I knew when I rushed, I didn't have a Kappa rec, but I ended up with a Kappa bid.

It's not really time for you to get into this. Your Gamma Chi or whatever they are called will explain all the ranking/voting stuff to you. This is standard RFM practice so the lists and computer will take care of everything. Get some rest and be polished for tomorrow.

Party invitations do not equal a bid.

Also - remember - it only takes one bid.
Even if you dont have a full schedule tomorrow, those groups liked you enough to want to learn more. Stick with it.

Well, they didn't invite me back. Whether it was because of recs or other reasons, I'll never know. My other favorite didn't invite me back either. I'm disappointed, but I went to some great houses today! I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
