Really? I've never seen it, but with your recommendations perhaps it's worth putting in the Netflix queue.

He's a caveman that gets thawed out of something?

No I think that's a different one. Basically it's the 1950s, nuclear bomb scares and stuff and Brendan Fraser's parents have a shelter under their house. A plane crashes into the house and they all go down there and live there for about 30 years, so he grows up in the shelter and comes out in the 90s. It's a really cute film.

Maybe you're in the wrong department. A lot of people have a good time.

Having lived in Athens and in Auburn, I have to say, Athens was less depressing.

Auburn is more my style. The people are much more southern, well mannered, the girls are prettier...there's just too much yankee/Atlanta presence in Athens. Plus Auburn is a lot more politically conservative, which I like.

I thought of this thread today at internship when every man I was around today (3 of them) all opened the door for me and let me walk through first...like, they went out of their way to make sure they opened the door for me. Not everyone may agree with it, but I love southern hospitality!

Rude people with no home training are everywhere.
This brings back memories of my 11th-grade U.S. history teacher, a no-nonsense type who had no reservations about calling out the unruly. If someone was talking while she was trying to lecture, she'd just point at them and say, "Poor home training." That, and "Precious, shut up."

"Precious, shut up" is an instant classic with me. I like the juxtaposition of the patronizingly affectionate with the mildly, and yet appropriately, stifling.

On the surface it doesn't meet the standards of good manners, but it was probably the perfect response to the constant chatterer who had no regard for good manners anyway.

Shinerbock, because I'm sure you eagerly await my insights about Athens, GA and don't want to deprive me of the opportunity to wax poetical about Sylvester Croom, I wanted to let you know that your private message mailbox is full.

Beautiful. I'd like to meet this woman someday and shake her hand.

Eating spaghetti with a spoon is for people that can't wrap the pasta around the fork very well. it's probably safer for them, especially if they dressed up and don't wanna get puhsketti on their clothes. aside from them, i think eating spaghetti with a spoon is odd.

good beer should always be poured. it affects the flava. otherwise, you're all up in the beer and don't even know the flava.

why don't they call it a chicken coop when it has two doors instead of four?

that's not a coupe, it's a sedan!

Interesting. I do think that regionalisms play a big role in "manners" across geographic areas. I have lived in all of the regions in the United States (except the 'mountain' zone) and have seen it first hand. Some things are universal, but regionalisms cannot be denied by any stretch of the imagination.
