I think what they mean is all groups had them on their bid list and they matched to 10 of the 16.

I'm happy with the results for sure, and I understand why they want to disclose this information to be able to make claims about progress in this area.

But I found a school official commenting publicly about bids that were extended but not claimed kind of a bad direction to move it if membership selection is actually private. (ETA: by bids extended, I guess I mean bids that would have been extended had bid matching worked differently. I assume that what was meant was that all 16 had AA PNMS on their bid lists but that the NMs matched elsewhere. I don't think that's information that should be publicly commented on if membership selection is private and up to the groups.)
1) We are pretty open around here about the fact that, in most cases, invite to pref = on bid list somewhere.

2) Equal access to the Greek System and accountability on that point is more important than your comfort in reading this article.

Where did it say that bids were extended but not claimed? You can only "claim" one bid and they ALL accepted bids. You can't accept 2 bids. Many more bids than can be "claimed" are extended every year.

It didn't say that exactly, but the UA official quoted said something like all the groups extended bid to AA PNMs but that all the AA members went to 10 groups.

We know that girls have to be matched to be extended a bid, so what the director said was actually kind of impossible. I think they just wanted to make sure that no one concluded that the six groups without new AA members didn't want to offer them bids.

I don't see it that way at all. What he's saying is that all 16 groups offered bids to at least one of the 21 AA women. the 21 women matched to 10 of the groups. So THEY wanted the 10 groups more than the 6 other groups.

What if he also added that 3,129 (or whatever) bids were offered to 2,054 women? It's the same thing. All he's saying is that at least one AA women was on every chapter's bid list.

Did y'all really think they wouldn't publicize this information after what happened last year? Duh!

Equal access and accountability are very important, but officially and publicly commenting about who was on a group's bid list by an official outside the group is categorically a bad idea.

I think you can accomplish as much or more by simply stating that all AA PNM who participated in recruitment got bids.

If we want groups to actually feel the pressure to recruit and welcome AA members, then making sure that everyone gets PR brownie points for inviting folks to prefs might be counterproductive.

Agreed. And if a handful of actives hadn't been courageous enough last year to shed some light on what was really happening during MS, no one would've known the true extent of what was really going on at Alabama. When alums around the country caught wind of it, they weren't all up in arms about privacy being breached, but they were outraged at discrimination happening at one of their chapters.

Congrats to all the AA women who found their homes at Alabama this year!!

My Alumnae Chapter wrote 2 recommendations for Alabama. One young lady is a NM in Zeta Tau Alpha while the other one, not surprisingly, was not on the list. Not sure if PNM #2 was dropped heavily due to grades or if she decided to withdraw.
