I quit doing that when I was on a trip to Europe. It was 3 weeks long and I always heard that's what it took to break a habit, so I would not let myself bite my nails at all during that trip and it worked! Set a certain goal that say "by valentine's day I want to have long pretty nails" A concrete date & reminder was perfect for me. I felt proud of myself for quitting!

1) Get back into the gym
2) Point out more reasons I have to be happy and less I have to complain about
3) Limit my "bum" days to once a week at the most (less sweatpants & hoodies)
4) Set aside a real bed time and wake up time even for days I could sleep in
5) Spend less money eating on campus

Every year I keep hoping I'll kick that nasty habit once and for all, but the best I've been able to do is quit for a few months at a time. Then once my nails start breaking because they're too long, I start biting them again. Maybe now that I'm working I'll be able to afford a regular manicure!

Good for you! I'm an adoptive mom to a 7-year old boy and have dealt with infertility as well. PM me if you'd care to chat - I'd be more than happy to share my experience with you.

My one major resolution for this year is to FINALLY clean out our home office. I've let it become a pigsty and it is beyond embarrassing. At this point, only a flamethrower might help this mess!

I don't know, my nail biting addiction is pretty bad. The "sure fire" way to quit that many people have told me about was to just get fake nails. Yeah, no. Once those started to grow out I bit those off completely.

It doesn't hurt to try though!

I want to buy more local produce, and therefore incorporate more fresh produce in my diet. That'll be good for my (and my husband's!) health, weight, recipe creativity, local farmers, and the environment. I've started to look into a weekly delivery service to take out some of the hassle & excuses.

So cliche - but gypsyboots is getting married in January 2012, and I have GOT to be at least 20 lbs. lighter. Now that I once again have Armour (actually, it's another manufacturer, but same deal) thyroid medication again, I may have a chance!

I rarely write resolutions, but I've realized that unless I know where I want to go, I'll never get there. These are the things I want to accomplish on some level. Even taking a few steps might be enough to enact change or find fulfillment.

1. Continue blogging with a purpose (I have just started).
2. Be more proactive in treating my disease on a daily basis. Doing little things that add up, even when I'm already feeling beat down.
3. Find at least one or two opportunities to act in the coming year. Taking a class or two to renew connections and refresh skills.
4. Film another script that I've written, possibly episode 2 of our web series.
5. Have more "adventures" with my hubby.
6. Take a real vacation this year (it's been four years).
7. Buy and make great use of the state Beach Pass. It's $60 for the entire season, and it's only 45 minutes away.
8. Stay out of the hospital for more than 6 months at a time.
9. Go out of my way to make my mom, who is always miserable, happy when I can, even if she drives me nuts.
10. Give a homeless kitty a forever home, providing a new brother or sister for my 4-year old cat, and a new baby for us to love.

Good luck to everyone who hopes to make changes in the upcoming year. Let's revisit this thread next December to see what we've managed to do!!

Yeah that didn't work for me either. I bit mine off as well. The goal thing worked for me (usually doesn't for me, but on a fluke it did)
Either way good luck!!!! You'll be so proud of yourself when you stop

Re: Nail biting - the only thing that got be to stop was getting braces (Invisalign) that made it absolutely impossible to bite them. Sorry that doesn't help you lovespink - womp womp.

I don't really do resolutions - they're a little too abstract for my taste. I am, however, working through an end of the semester reflection that will hopefully help me assess the past semester, and set goals for next semester and beyond. (graduation - eek!)

I don't really do resolutions per se, but I do have some goals that I hope to accomplish in 2011 including:

1) Passing the CISSP exam
2) Finding a job in IT security

I've been working on #2 with no results so far but I'm pretty confident that if I can achieve #1, then #2 will follow quickly. The biggest obstacle right now is finding $600 to pay for the CISSP exam .. within the next 3 weeks <sigh>. Otherwise, I have to wait until May to take it and I'll be in the middle of a class then, which would royally stink.

So, I just passed the Notary exam for New York! My goal is to be a great Notary but, also to work towards and pass the CASAC exam for Chemical Dependency! I'm already in the field but, this will definitely help me become a QHP before getting my LMSW. This year, I'm going to set reasonable goals!
