Really? From telling you that "Yup, we know plenty of people who pay for dues".

(I, btw, pay for my own dues. So does my sister. Our parents just expect it. We also both pay for our own living expenses. It happens.)

IF you are for real, consider (a) making the most of it (I never got why people skipped socials to hang out on their own: you're already paying for it!) and (b) stop buying the extras. You don't need them. You don't need every t-shirt, tote bag, or party favor the chapter orders.

on the chance it's real

Two choices for you:

1) Drop out of your sorority and spend all your free time with your boyfriend.

2) Kick your boyfriend to the curb (because it sounds like your relationship is having a bad effect on your sorority membership) and MAKE A FRICKING EFFORT.

Seriously, don't be that girl with the boyfriend who never does anything. Now no, I'm not saying you should automatically dump your boyfriend when you get a bid - but no one likes the girl who can't come to mixers because her boyfriend gets upset, or doesn't hang out at the house because she's with him every minute - who basically uses him as an excuse to keep from really giving her all to sorority life.

I pay for my sorority dues, and I know a LOT of other people who do.

My parents paid for everything.

I didn't have time to get a job.

And this girls nuts. I think she just likes to complain.

^My job was directly related to my then-career choice. We had a deal that, if you paid your dues up front at the beginning of the school year, you received a dangle. And, of course, the knowledge that the sorority would be solvent from the beginning of the year.

i paid for my dues. we had a payment plan option, and i paid it over the course of the year. i paid a little bit every month, it was jsut another bill to go along with my living expenses. i worked my butt off throwing pizza's and wiating tables and being a computer lab monitor and mucking horse stalls and babysitting and..... do you see where this is going? My parents would not pay my dues, nor did I ask them to. I didn't buy every tshirt, just the important ones (like bid day and greek week). i carried a full course load in a difficult major, worked 20+hours a week. I made it work, it was worth it.

Actually, my parents did pay for my dues. I was a commuter and it was kind of a trade-off to keep me from wanting to go away to school. I was one of the few, though. One girl's grandmother paid her dues, but most of them worked and paid their own. And I did pay for the extras, such as t-shirts, favors, dances, etc, and my living expenses when I lived in the house.

oh.... and i had "that" boyfriend for about a year. he hated that i was greek and was convinced i was screwing every frat guy i talked to. i'm ashamed to say it took me so long to realize what a douchebag he was. the next boyfriend I married, and he was our Delta Sig sweetheart's best friend from home.

If you're having such a hard time paying for dues, take out student loans.

And relationships in college are the biggest waste of time ever. ESPECIALLY if you're Greek. Unless you go to college to find your future spouse, why waste your time?

eeek! i have to say "NOOOOOO" to the student loans. biggest mistake ever. (granted i wouldnt have been able to go to college without them, but 10 years later I'm still $35 grand in debt to my loan companies). Taking out a loan just to be invoved in your greek org is a bad idea.

I know girls who had "that boyfriend" in undergrad. They joined a sorority and quit because of the bf. Like 5 minutes after they quit, they broke up with said bf. Cue regret. lol.

My parents pay my dues because even with them added in, living in the sorority house is still less than living off campus. However for next year, we have a deal. They'll pay one semester and I'll pay one semester. T-shirts and everything are considered extras. If I want them, I pay for them myself.

I had "that" boyfriend too. He had this stereotypical sorority girl from the movies in his mind and said if I rushed, he would "lose all respect for me." I lost the boy and gained a sisterhood.

Did we have the same parents and the same boyfriend?
I had the same situation!
