Ladies, Ladies, Ladies!! You guys are KILLING ME with these responses (my daughter wants to know why I am laughing sooooo hard)
This is MY take on the ESSENCE AWARDS SHOW that aired last night.
THE GOOD: The poem that was read (I can't remember the lady's name, but I know that she's an actress---she was AWESOME). The song by Lauryn Hill (yes, I actually liked the song. I just didn't see what it had to do with the theme of the show, but I liked the song). Steve Harvey and DL Hugley were very funny. The presentations of awards to those brothers from Harlem and the surgeon. Yolanda Adams and Donnie were OFF THE CHAIN (Yoland sung her heart out). The presentation of the awards to the mothers. Overall the ceremony was very tasteful. These are the kinds of African-American awards shows that I really enjoy watching. Everyone was DRESSED--Iman could have done a little better, but she still looked good.
THE BAD: Yeah, I'm gone say it, PUFF DADDY did NOT need to "give his two-cents). He'll ALWAYS be PUFF DADDY to me (and probably everyone else). Just because he wants some of the heat taken off of him, he wants to change his name. When will he realize that no matter WHAT he changes his name to, the stigma and attention that came from his BEHAVIOR will still be there?. It's not his NAME that he has to change, but his BEHAVIOR. I really don't see why they had him on there in the first place.
THE UGLY: Although I love Lauryn Hill (and the song that she sang last night), yeah, I agree that she MUST be going through some things.
I am one of those sisters with the natural cut also. But BELIEVE ME, I wouldn't have gotten it if my hair dresser did not feel that the cut would fit me. No, that cut don't fit Lauryn.
But her voice and face are STILL beautiful and she's STILL rolling in the dough. I didn't pay much attention to Camille Cosby's dress, but I DID notice that she's gained a few pounds. It looks good on her.
Again, overall the show was a success and I'm glad that Susan Taylor (she's an awesome female) uses taste and tact in her shows and magazines.
