As for rituals, my college roommate and I always ate 1/2 the cookie, read the fortune, then ate the remaining 1/2 of the cookie. I don't know why- it was her idea.
The best fortune cookie I had was a couple years ago. My boyfriend and I always eat our fortune cookies together. We were having Valentine's Day dinner and he handed me a cookie and was like "here's yours". I opened it and there was a ring inside!! (not an engagement ring, just a ring).
My coworker recently proposed to his girlfriend using a GIANT fortune cookie. He ordered it online and had a custome fortune made that said "Will you marry me, [name]". He had a friend go in and put in the display case of desserts. Then he was like "hey, what's that? Do you want this?" But she was like, "No, I want cheesecake". So he ordered it. And then he had a heck of a time getting her to open it. Needless to say, she was surprised.
