My chapter was used twice like this when I was an active. It was when there wasn't a snowball's chance of getting an SEC bid, if you lived above the Mason-Dixon line! What really burned me was the number of women who would have been committed to the chapter who had been cut so that these special snowflakes could get a bid.
Another phenomena was when a chapter closed (in our case, WVU), and many sisters transferred and wanted to affiliate. For the most part, we accepted them happily.
But maybe, if they wanted to be a member of that GLO sooooo bad, they end up being really good, involved alums? Do you think that is true? Or do you think it's all about being in a certain GLO on a certain campus?

I had never thought of the alumnae involvement. That makes me feel much, much better about a few tense times in the ole sorority suite!
And yes, I do think that campus culture has a lot to do with it, too.
