THIS! Happened ALL the time, pre-internet. Who could know the schools where you'd been accepted or gone through rush (or even recieved bids/pledged)?

At my school (where the Fall term started after Labor Day, and rush was in late October) there was a young lady who was on her 3rd (!) Rush that year to get her dream GLO. She received her bid at our school and transferred her sophomore year back to a large SEC school. But the chapter there refused to affiliate her! So, she was back (immediately) to our school. Didn't miss a day.

All of this came out after she returned - - her chapter was not amused. (And, I can't imagine the cost of doing this! Her parents must've been nuts!)

Wow! I wonder why the SEC school wouldn't let her affiliate. We've had affiliates, but never anyone who left and came back. Did her chapter have to take her in?

Cool

Some GLOs do not have to allow affiliations - I know my chapter voted on several affilate applications during my time there. And, if it was a large SEC chapter expecting a large pledge class - - I'm guessing they didn't want a girl they had already passed on previously AND they didn't "pick out" themselves. (Since this was a well documented "end run" around the membership selection strategy, it was probably justified not to affiliate her.)

My own brother joined a national Frat his freshman year at a smaller school, and then transferred to Ole Miss. He told me that as an "Affilitated" member, he could not vote on ANYTHING. He was simply a "social" member. But, that was the way it was organized with them.

BTW, the young woman in the discussion was actually a lovely and kind person and fit in well with the chapter on my campus, sorta leaves you to wonder WHO wanted her to join the SEC chapter . . .

This is the best story I've heard yet about that craziness! That young lady must have had psychotic-level determination to reach her goal to put herself through three rushes!! How could she even function at school? The physical, mental and emotional exhaustion would've been a severe detriment starting out the school year, and getting the grades you needed to even initiate!

My question is, if all this comes out, will you really be afforded the post-graduate social amenities that the "right" sorority gets you? Or will you be Tilly the Transfer until you're in the nursing home?
