You don't "know" that you won't get into a chapter if you go through formal rush. Especially if your school has an upperclass quota.
If you had an interest in Greek life, why haven't you rushed previously?
Please be aware that colonies (especially at schools with large and popular Greek systems) are not easier to get into than established chapters.
