I wouldn't be. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've read in public histories of at least a few GLOs for which that is the case, though I can't remember who right not.
But I'd also remember that just because the letters may have originally been inspired by English words or an English phrase, that doesn't mean they weren't given a deeper (and non-English) meaning later.
