Forito,
I think National Fraternity and Sororities have their letters copyrighted, when they are used in sequence, so a movie has to come up with a fictitious name.
For example, in LEGALLY BLONDE, Reese Witherspoon was in Delta Nu sorority. There is no Delta Nu in the NPC, but there *IS* Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta (being 2 lettered orgs beginning with Delta). I don't know of any Delta Nu sorority in existence, but there might be a local somewhere that I am not aware of.

As for a guy giving his girlfriend his Greek Letter necklace (the pendant with the Greek Letters on it is called a "lavaliere"), we call that "lavaliering" someone or "dropping" someone (note: in this context, dropping means giving someone your lavaliere..it does not mean breaking up with or "dumping" someone). I think it might mean different things on different campuses, but I think it means anything from "I really really like you and I am serious about you" to "We are engaged to be engaged" type of thing.
