scream 2?

I was watching Scream 2 and i had a few questions about their Greek system set up in the movie. They have sororities that arent on the NPC list so r they a local organization. And Derek gave Sydney his greek letters necklace- is that really sumthing that isnt aloud? and the two girls who belonged to the house were saying that they had theyre on on sydney like they wanted her to join the sorority- is that how it really works? lil sister

i havent seen the movie, but usually npc sororities and ifc fraternities will not allow their letters to be used in movies. the fraternities and sororities in movies are always made up. no one wants a movie to portray their organization in a way that may be untrue. also, i wouldn't want some actor wearing my letters acting like he was a brother of phi psi.

Maybe THAT's why they deleted out that scene in American Pie 2 where Oz mentions Chi Phi

Forito,
I think National Fraternity and Sororities have their letters copyrighted, when they are used in sequence, so a movie has to come up with a fictitious name.
For example, in LEGALLY BLONDE, Reese Witherspoon was in Delta Nu sorority. There is no Delta Nu in the NPC, but there *IS* Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta (being 2 lettered orgs beginning with Delta). I don't know of any Delta Nu sorority in existence, but there might be a local somewhere that I am not aware of.

As for a guy giving his girlfriend his Greek Letter necklace (the pendant with the Greek Letters on it is called a "lavaliere"), we call that "lavaliering" someone or "dropping" someone (note: in this context, dropping means giving someone your lavaliere..it does not mean breaking up with or "dumping" someone). I think it might mean different things on different campuses, but I think it means anything from "I really really like you and I am serious about you" to "We are engaged to be engaged" type of thing.

FYI There is a local sorority at Dickinson College in Pennsylvaia called Delta Nu

PiKA2001 07-05-2002 02:51 AM

We started as a local called delta nu. We are also delta nu chapter of pi kappa alpha, so I died in the theater when she kept referring to delta nu. Also about scream 2, the sorority of delta lambda zeta is a take on delta zeta. Note that in the movie the house has green and pink all over it and there is a turtle sculpture in the house. Also the lambda stuck in the middle......hmmmm
