So we visited all 11 chapters today. They are allowed to call us beginning at 7 PM tomorrow to extend bids. We have 48 hours to accept/decline a bid after it has been placed. They can extend bids for the next few weeks. Say if they have 10 spots available, extend 10 bids, 5 decline, they can extend 5 more.
They raised total by ~20 AFTER formal recruitment, so way more had to participate this year than usual. It was still a little frustrating though that (as always I'm assuming) some sororities are only extending bids to 3 or 4 girls, so you don't really have a chance from the start.
I can tell my mini recruitment story here! Is that allowed?

Also, girls may receive more than one bid. There was no structure to the day, and I felt bad for the girls who started off late and didn't realize just how much time it could take.
The chapters not participating are not all above total, but their nationals or advisers may not say they have to participate. Its always like that at UF. So, its usually very random as to who ends up participating!
All in all it was a very good day, from what I could see!

Did I FYP correctly? As in, even if a chapter is above total, they may be told by their nationals they have to participate anyway? Are their nationals aware this isn't just an informational type event - that the majority of the PNMs assume that if a sorority is at this event, they are under total and can give bids? I mean, making one of your chapters appear there if they aren't "open for business" could result in PNMs getting very pissed off at them. I don't think any group wants that.
It sounds like there's some a lot of miscommunication going on between PNMs, nationals, GLOs and Panhel.

No, she said that the chapters that are NOT participating aren't all over total. They may have spaces open to take women, but they aren't being forced by advisors or their nationals to participate.

I guess I wonder then why bring up nationals or advisors at all? I mean the school can't tell the nationals/advisors what to tell the individual groups...either with what you said above or what I said. I'm sure some of the groups don't want to participate, but I am also reasonably sure that if they're 30% under total and tell their nationals they don't want to, their nationals are going to have a cow.

Yeah, but I think spring recruitment has always been seen as a bad thing so no one wanted to participate. Maybe their nationals would be okay to not do it if they thought it would make the chapter look bad. (With 11 chapters participating, it would be a hard sell, but they may try.) I can tell you, AOII IHQ would say, "Get your butts in there!"

I think it sounds like they are confusing "partially structured" with "partially informed."

Doesn't sound like they know how to do spring recruitment does it?

I think that's what they did last year; required all the chapters to be there at the kickoff event. It was like a bait and switch. Most were not taking new members and that caused a lot of anger among the PNMs once they found out who was participating.
