it's nice to give like 10% or even just a few dollars, it depends on how time consuming it is, sometimes packing up to-go's is difficult (but then again, i haven't really worked in a restaurant that does to-go on the regular) I would prob go for 10-15% percent as a rule, more if your being a pain (making all kinds of modifications, etc) lol
I work p/t at a restaurant and work the take-out counter every Friday night. I don't expect 20% on takeout, but a dollar or two on an order is appreciated; 5-10% if it is a large complicated order.

My restaurant also offers curb-side pickup (you call the order in, tell us what your car looks like and then I watch through the windows to see you pull up). Most people will give at least 5-10% for curbside. However, I have had several who don't give anything. This past Friday, I had a $60+ order on curbside - tip $0. Really? I'm helping you out so you don't have to take your kid out of the car or just because you don't feel like walking into the restaurant and you can't even give me $1? Come on.

That sucks.

I was taught that if you can't afford to tip appropriately, you should not be going out to eat. When I know I've only got $10 left to spend for the week (yep, it happens ) I don't go out. I've got friends that will and order water and an $8 appetizer, then don't tip. I make up the difference when I can (discreetly), but it always irritates me.

Not tipping the bartender seems to be par for the course, too, which I think is unfair. Especially on nights when there are 4382389473289 college students screaming at the bartender all at once.

I always tip 20%.

I tip other people too (all spa stuff, etc.)

I would never not tip, I just don't really get it. Wouldn't most managers say part of the job is great service?
