What does your business partner think about your belief that most terrorist acts are planned and executed by people of the Islamic faith?

He and I disagee greatly on politics (he is a liberal and I am conservative) but we have a blast arguing. We almost missed a flight to Ecuador because we were caught up in political discourse.
I asked him about the Mosque and he does not agree with building it near the site of the attack. His thought process is similar to mine as he considers it too open a wound and too close to ground zero. His statement is that it "doesn't serve any real good at this time".

And that is just you two saying that and neither one of you can make statements that qualify for the whole of either group.

You sound like a Calvinist, which I always mean as a compliment.

One buddy said he agreed with much of my assessment of religion except with my belief that the Bible is an illustration and lesson that some interpret differently, but it is not to be taken literally. He said that the Word of God is to be taken 100% as the Word and taken literally because these were divinely inspired men (just men? LOL).

I read recently (in a more conservative publication) that you can take the Bible literally and you can take the Bible seriously, but you can't do both at the same time.

He agrees with my statement but does not think it is indicative of all Muslims and for that matter neither do I. He is very pissed about what the radical elements of Islam have done to his faith.

Can we not say that about everything posted by everyone on this board? I never claimed to be the spokesperson for anyone or anything. Most everything I read and write on this board is opinion very ocassionally backed by facts. That goes for your pontifications as well.

Most of the international (not domestic) terrorist plots and acts against the U.S. that have received media and public attention in the past 20 or so years have been Muslim (self-proclaimed and otherwise) terrorists. I assume that's what Ghostwriter really meant but I could be wrong.
Most Muslims (self-proclaimed and otherwise) are not terrorists and were not involved in orchestrating the terrorist acts against the U.S.
I think Ghostwriter knows this and didn't think she needed to spell it out.
On that note, all apples are fruits but not all fruits are apples. Party over here.

What has been interesting to me is Ghostwriter's blanket use of the terms "Muslim" and "Islam" until the post about the business partner when this came out:

I appreciated this distinction, because one of the major issues with the Islamic Center is that for many people Islam = Terrorist when it is really Radicals = Terrorists, in this case.

Indeed.

So the 9/11 responders who oppose this building are reactionary idiots? The survivors of this attack are reactionary idiots? The police, emergency services and fire fighters are reactionary idiots? The many New Yorkers who disagree with you are reactionary idiots? You resort to name calling pretty quickly when one doesn't agree with your liberal POV. Grow up!

I resort to name calling when you demonstrate that you're too ignorant to bother responding to with logic. Also, boredom will do that.

I don't consider her POV to be liberal.
Don't forget that you haven't always acted "grown" on here. Everyone gets their day.

I wouldn't exactly call the funny girl a Reagan Conservative anytime in the near future.

In your mind, is a viewpoint either liberal or Reagan Conservative?

No, I was joking about the conservative bit but she does take a liberal stance in a lot of her posts so it's not shocking that people think she's liberal.

Your post has nothing to do with mine. I shall clarify. I see nothing "liberal" about what she has typed in this thread. I don't know whether Ghostwriter was speaking generally or about this thread. But, I consider needing categories for every social, economic, and political perspective to be confining and completely pointless.
