Another sorority girl that I had talked to told me she had gone in with no letters of rec because she had no idea on what sorority she wanted. Was I given correct information or no? Both of these girls did rush as freshmen so our situations are a little different and they are both aware that I'm rushing as a junior.
If both of them rushed as freshmen then their circumstances were different. You are a Junior and UF formal recruitment is competitive. I highly recommend you get recs. It's always better to be safe than sorry, so put in the extra effort on getting them (for every sorority). Even though one active member of a sorority told you that it's only important if you were 100% sure of the house you wanted to be in. Honestly, I find what she said as a little odd. When you go through formal recruitment, you have to be open minded and not listen to the tent talk. Form your own opinions and follow your heart.

This is just what I suggest to you, you can take it with a grain of salt if you like, but I believe if you go in without recs then expect heavy cuts.

I went through rush as a Junior without recs at USF, but USF is not competitive at all. Also, I did not receive invites on the 2nd & 3rd day from the sororities I liked a lot during FR. Maybe that would of been different if I had recs? Maybe it was because of something else, like my GPA not being too high, not enough involvement, maybe I didn't click with the members and I thought I did? But in the end, I am happy with my decision
