Hey!
Hi, my name's Kahla. I'm 19 and I'm a junior (credit-wise) at the University of Florida :D. I'm planning on rushing for a sorority this fall! I'm really anxious and really excited all at the same time, I'm just hoping that being a junior won't hurt my chances too badly.

Welcome.
I'm feeling nice, so I dug up some threads that may be helpful to you. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=112877 http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=105616 |
Thank you so much for the information! I will definitely be keeping an open mind during the rushing process, I really don't have one that I just absolutely have to be in. I was told that even though I was a junior that I still should mention the fact that I was the age of freshman/soph.. but I'm not sure if that will even help me out or not? I was a transfer there for the spring '10 semester, and I was not involved with any groups on campus, but I was recognized in the campus paper for leading UF in a college competition. I realize my chances are slim, but I know that I will regret it if I don't at least try. I guess we'll see what happens. :)

True, I hope it makes for good conversation haha. As far as letters of recommendations go, I was told by a current sorority girl at UF that that was only important if I was 100% sure of what house I wanted to be in. Another sorority girl that I had talked to told me she had gone in with no letters of rec because she had no idea on what sorority she wanted. Was I given correct information or no? Both of these girls did rush as freshmen so our situations are a little different and they are both aware that I'm rushing as a junior.

This is just what I suggest to you, you can take it with a grain of salt if you like, but I believe if you go in without recs then expect heavy cuts. I went through rush as a Junior without recs at USF, but USF is not competitive at all. Also, I did not receive invites on the 2nd & 3rd day from the sororities I liked a lot during FR. Maybe that would of been different if I had recs? Maybe it was because of something else, like my GPA not being too high, not enough involvement, maybe I didn't click with the members and I thought I did? But in the end, I am happy with my decision :) |
Thank you so much for the advice, I'm going to probably pull for those letters of rec only because I want my chances to be good (well as good as they can be!). I'm curious though, and I really hope this isn't a stupid question because I'm still so new to this rushing/sorority thing, but are letters of rec only allowed to come from past sorority members or can they come from people that I've worked for/volunteered for/etc.? From what I have read previously it seemed like they were only allowed to come from past sorority members, but I want to make sure I have the information correct.

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ersity+Florida Here is some general info about recs: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...threadid=48462 And here is a link on sororities allowing collegians to write recs for you, but they must be attending a different university. There is a list of sororities that allow it, some sororities (not listed) only allow alums. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=75639 |

You are awesome, thank you so much!!! I actually read that story last night trying to kill time waiting for my account to be upgraded on here. It got me even more excited for the fall. I will definitely be looking into what I can to secure letters of recommendation! Thank you again! |
Y're welcome Kahla
