FYI, the link/"rumor" DS posted has been sent around, verbatim, in various email incarnations for weeks. It was even posted on Deadspin as a Snopes-style "THIS IS NOT JUST YOUR FRIENDS SENDING THIS SHIT" thing. So take that for what it's worth.

Ok....so uh...anyone cares about his apology and Allred's reaction?
No? Ok.

It's on here at work and everyone stopped to watch it. I could hear it in the background. He shoulda blamed it all on the Ambien.

I give him props for defending Elin, but that was the most emotion he showed during the whole thing.

Nope not in the least. I didn't think it was necessary for a public apology. He could've kept that ish between him, his wife, and his sponsors. I didn't see Allred's reaction, but I tend to pay her little mind anyway.

I hate that they halted reality to show us that stupid announcement. How about not every cares and I would rather watch The View? How about WAIT FOR REAL GROUNDBREAKING news and events before you interrupt regular scheduled programs. For Tiger Woods? SRSLY? ORLY?
I laughed when he talked about how he got himself into this--but leave his wife and kids alone--oh and "many of you may not know this but...." he was raised Buddhist and has reached out to Buddhism for direction and strength. Yay Tiger, yay.
Also, this whole sex addict thing has become synonymous with "men who do what they can get away with until they can no longer get away with it."

Why is this news?
High profile men cheat on their wives everyday.
They don't get CNN press conferences and/or make public apologies for it.

The apology was probably presented as well as possible. There's always going to be a scripted element to these types of events, but I can't really complain about the way he made the statement. I don't agree with what he did, but at this point he had interests to protect and he acted accordingly. I have no idea if he was sincere, but then again that's something between him and his family.
If I were his PR/crisis management team, I would have been very pleased with how it went today. I'd be interested to hear from the PR practitioners on the board, as I know there are at least a couple who are experienced in the industry.
One interesting aspect, at least for me as a former journalist, was the fact that a number of sportswriters boycotted the event because of the "invite only" aspect. To be honest, I'm not sure what I would have done if I were in their position, although it likely would have been whatever my editor wanted for me to do.

They interrupted it because it would get ratings - the number of usual viewers who were driven away was outweighed by the number of people who tuned in just to watch the announcement.
You can call it a symptom of a celebrity-obsessed culture, but I completely understand why they did it.

It's news because it's Tiger Woods. He's one of the most famous athletes in the world, and there's a lot of curiosity about the situation. Whether we liked it or not, we're discussing it on a message board.
For those of us who don't care, we don't have a whole lot we can do other than telling friends that this stuff really isn't that important.

I think the media pushed it. Everyone talked about he needed to come out and admit it and balh blah blah. To be honest I'm surprised he didn't commit suicide with how media-crazed this event has been.

I have a PR degree but I haven't used it professionally. However, if I were his PR team, I would have written his apology.... which is probably what his PR team did. Also, I think it wouldn't have been such a huge deal if he would have come forward earlier and not gone into hiding. I don't agree with how the media reacted to everything, but since our society is so star-obsessed nowadays and feels they need an explanation, that's my answer to it.
