Even though the OP was generally positive about my sorority (but thought them "cold" and "stagnant" and ranked them in the last quartile), I didn't really care. Each chapter is different at each school. What I didn't appreciate was her decision to reveal her entire code. I can't even remember the last time I've seen someone do that. I feel like sorority identities should only be revealed in a maximum of three places, maybe four, in a given recruitment story:
1) The sorority that extended you a bid at the end (duh!).
2) The sorority that ended up being your second choice at the end of recruitment if and only if they were a super-close second (or tied with first) and you had only great things to write about them.
3) If you chose to list all of the sororities at the very beginning of your story. (E.g. "I go a public university in the southeast and my school has 7 sororities: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.)
4) If you choose to mention (at the beginning of the story) that you hold a legacy status with any of the groups --- but only if you have positive or neutral things to say about that group further along in your story!
Of course, if your story doesn't have a happy ending (ahem!) or you're less than thrilled with your eventual bid, it may be wiser to not reveal any part of your code -- at all. It should go without saying that smart storytellers don't mention any identifying details of the inter/national organization or a specific chapter (including their house!). No mention of colors, symbols, song/chant lyrics, detailed descriptions of a house's façade, etc.
OK, end of rant.
