This has nothing to do with who is funny or not, it has to do with following through on promises. Conan stayed w/ the Late Show for 5 years more than he needed to, on the promise that he would get the Tonight Show (which at 12:05 is no longer the Tonight Show). Conan got nowhere NEAR the welcome that Jay got when he took over, and Jay was dying in the ratings for the first year and a half he was on.
"Doesn't it feel great to be vindicated?" - Whoopi Goldberg to David Letterman last night. He has to be the happiest he's ever been in his life right now.
