It's been a long time since I went through rush (it was called rush, and there were no sororitites in East Halls), but I think you made exactly the right call - split the difference.
My only word of advice, from someone who still has blisters from wearing Candies from Ritner to Cooper and back to Wolf, is to keep a pair of flip-flops or other comfy shoes in your purse. All that walking is BRUTAL.
