I also have the misfortune of looking 10 years younger than I am. (Yeah yeah, I'll enjoy it when I'm 60. But right now, I'm getting mistaken for a 6th grader and I don't enjoy that). When I was 14, I took my nephew to Sam Goody's in the mall to look at CDs while my sister was in another store and I got soooooo many dirty looks and heard mutterings about "babies having babies." I WAS 14!!!! They couldn't even mistake him for my baby brother or something??

OMG that happened to me at Sam's when I was 15. I had my baby cousin with me at Sam's Club, and this old man kept staring at me. When my mom came back to our table with food, the man goes up to my mom and says "isn't it a joy to be a grandmother?" and then gives me a funny look. I didn't get it at first but a little later I was I was 15...and probably didn't look a day over 11, and he automatically thought I was the mother?

^^^Girl, the things we go through watching other people's kids! Now, when I actually have some of my own, I bet people will think they are my siblings or cousins.

Maybe people just thought I was white trash....which would not be hard to think of in the town I live in! I cannot tell you how many times I have been out with a younger kid, cousin, babysitting, whatever, and I got some comment about "my kid". The comments started when I was around 13!

Ugh, EVERYONE pulls that one on me! "When you get older, you'll be happy!" Okay but now I'm a 20-something that looks like she's in middle school! When I started college, it was funny. However, when I say "I just graduated" to a stranger and they ask "From where? Middle school? High school?" it pisses me off! But I don't believe in make-up just yet so there's no way of "making myself look older". I just have to constantly act like an adult and hope that people get the picture.
BACK ON TOPIC... One day, my friends son was quizzing me as part of a Healthy Living Unit he is working on at school. He asked me "If you wanted a snack, would you grab a piece of watermelon or a bag of chips?" I answered "bag of chips" and his mother chimes in "DON'T LIE! YOU KNOW BLACK PEOPLE LOVE WATERMELON!" I guess she's getting her kids started early with stereotyping (he's only 7)

OMG THANK YOU! I'm getting sick of it. I know I've shared this story before, so I'll give the short version: I'm about to be 21 and I was mistaken for a 13 year old. I went to buy a student discounted ticket to a high school basketball game (my brother was playing in the Jazz Band), and the lady asked me if that discount "would be for high school or grade school?" Really lady?! I was wearing an Illinois hoodie too. Not that college kids are the only ones who wear those, but I think I would have helped. I really need to start wearing making everywhere I go...
Yes, I know I'll appreciate it later...just not right now... lol

This is so funny. I am 24 and I recently got carded buying tickets for a rated R movie (I am 5'0 and 100 lbs soaking wet). I actually don't mind it. At least people don't mistake me for 35 or something.
