So I suppose our first dance would be to my cousin's drunken rendition of "Bills Bills Bills."
YES (on the drunken Destiny's Child rendition).

I'm not sold on the big white shindig myself to be honest. The idea of paying to feed like 200 of my relatives (half of whom don'treally know me) has never thrilled me.

My family has vacation property in Vegas and I have spent alot of time there growing up, so it goes without saying that should anyone ever be crazy enough to marry me, everybody knows the deal.

My dad recommended Vegas, too. But I think he just wants an excuse to use his timeshare. I wonder how live-in would feel life I was like "No, we HAVE to get married this week in February because my dad won't be able to stay for free otherwise!!"

One of my sisters had a destination wedding in Jamaica. They had two attendants (MOH and Best man), then their immediate families were there. It looked BEAUTIFUL and they had a blast. Seems like the way to go.

I'd be happy with a Justice of the Peace though. If I end up regretting not having a big wedding down the line, that's what vow renewals/second husbands are for!

Live-in's mom is planning a huge wedding for her and her boyfriend. They're not engaged yet, but I'm sure they'll walk down the aisle before we do.

I suppose I should add that while she was giving me the evil eye for not wanting a big wedding shindig she also said "Oh but I would so love to take you wedding dress shopping, since your mom won't be with us."

Uh... talking about a potential wedding and/or during/before/after/around my wedding plans IS NOT THE TIME to remind me that my mom won't be there. You don't forget your mother passing ever. Thanks.

No kidding!

As if you don't EVER think about that and need a reminder.

Right. She didn't mean any harm by it but it's hard for some people to imagine getting married and having kids without their mom there. She was much older when her mom passed. She also doesn't realize that my mom and I were very close, so we'd already talked a lot about making relationships work before she passed. I'll probably take her up on the kids advice, though. All my mom ever said about that is that she and my dad made sure to have settled careers before kids so they could afford them.

She's ok, she just needs eveyone's attention on her all the time. We get along well but if live-in and I had a big wedding, she'd drive me bonkers during the planning. If I wasn't positive that she actually did like me a lot I would worry more about her doing the really crazy MIL things, like wearing white to the wedding and insisting that live-in sit with her instead of me during the reception.

ETA: Sorry for the hijack. My song is a few posts back. Drunken Destiny's Child. Bonus points for it being a song about a man who did you wrong.

I so agree. DH and I wanted a small white shindig, and that's exactly what we had. We invited those family members we were close to, a few family friends on each side, and our friends. (MIL added a bunch of her friends to the guest list, but she paid for them.)

I once joked in front of MIL that DH and I were going to elope. MIL threw a tantrum worthy of a three-year-old.

To steer this thread slightly back onto topic... The fact that we were having a small wedding was a big factor in our choice of band. The band we chose was not only really good (they played at a friend's wedding and we all but booked them on the spot), they adjusted their volume to the size of the venue. If you have fewer than 100 guests, you don't need a band that makes Metallica sound like a bunch of monks observing a vow of silence. Our band played at just the right volume - loud enough for dancing but not so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation.
