I used to work at a Christian college in the Academic Success Writing and Research Center and we had the same problem. They even blocked the word "sex" so students who were trying to do papers on "premarital sex" were blocked.

In another instance, I was making a presentation at a local elementary school about internet safety for parents and their children. Part of my presentation included youtube videos that I had downloaded and put into the presentation. The computers were old and couldn't seem to handle the videos so I tried to go right to youtube and found that entire site to be blocked.

I know now to always check ahead on the technology whenever I present outside of my office!

You know what's so funny about my posts? I had lunch with a few people I met on GC IRL on a couple of occasions. delph was one of them. Before I met the others, I told one of them how old I was via PM and a couple of them said "Now, PB you've got to be joking." Then when I made arrangements to meet up with the few that I met, they said "Your PB!?"

But it's a bad habit. RC, Ksigkid and others have already gotten on me about it. I'm working on it.

I work for a state agency and I'm barely allowed to breath on my pc.

I used to be able to check my home email but I can't even do that.

I do check the Atlanta paper front page several times a day so I don't feel so cut off from the world.

I can kinda sorta (not really) understand. The whole bldg. has been plagued by a computer virus the past few days. I do know other folks who are definitely checking non-work sites but I know that I'd get busted!

I am hoping to get a BB in 3 months so I can check the web and they won't know.

That happened to me in my old district. I teach biology and all manner of words associated with the reproductive system were blocked. Many of the teachers across various departments lobbied for teacher access, so we were able to search for scary words like breast and Nazi in peace.

The current school I work at probably wouldn't care, but I just don't post during work hours. Since I'm on such a different time zone, most people aren't posting when I'm at work. Its been a bit of exception the last few weeks since I've been off for holiday, but starting soon it will be back to the grind.
