(At my school teachers are encouraged to wear greek and college para to help inspire kids to go to college.)
Kindergarteners-
"What does A-K-A spell?"
"What? Affa Kapple Apple?"
"That is Ms. Laylo's sor-i-dee."
"S..p..r...spr! ...That's not a word."
Third grader walks in this morning, sees my jacket and his eyes bug out of his head: "You play soccer?!!"
huh? lol.

LOL!
When I was a kid I told my uncle I wanted to be an Apple Pie Apple like him (because his nalia was so cool LOL). I love apple pie so it would've been perfect for me, right? Imagine my pain when I found out I couldn't join because I'm female, and that the organization has nothing to do with desserts!

As in Greece?
This was what wasn't said; just weird.
I won't say the school, who knows, I may end up applying for a job there someday.
I had started a master's program at a small Northwest state college with a very small Greek system.
The instructor asked everyone in the class to give a short bio and say what area of higher education we might be interested in.
My turn: I said leadership development, orientation programming and possibly Greek life.
I saw more than a few puzzled faces. So, I said, like working with, advising fraternities and sororities.
A family emergency caused me to drop classes, so at least I didn't need a translator to get through the class.

So this wasn't said to me, but one of the BRUHS it happened to told me about it. It is a custom to sing the Hymn when a Bruh graduates, gets married, etc. So this Bruh has graduated and all the Bruhs gather to sing the Hymn. While they are singing, his family is behind them and his mother turns to her other son and says, "At least they coulda sang something EVERYBODY knows!" LOL!!!

You can't be serious. If even one of your students is serious, I'm scared that a movie storyline can't be separated from real life. Just...damn. *sigh*
Recently, I wore a SGRho shirt with the 10 pearls and 2 rubies in the Sigma. A colleague that I'm cool with simply asked, "I know that the letters are for your sorority, but what's with the red and white dots on the Sigma?" I explain that they are the sorority jewels that have a special significance that are dear to all sorority sisters. She replies, "Oh. It's kinda hard to imagine white and red dots as pearls and rubies. But no one else has rubies? Why does your sorority?"
.... I could only look at her like she was stupid because I don't recall the last time I've ever seen large pearlesque balls on someone's shirt. So that makes no sense for no one. But the look on my face probably said, "Didn't I just tell yo' dumb arse that it has significance to the sisters IN the sorority? If I wanted to tell you......, I would've told you immediately. Why doesn't your IT brain comprehend that???" But I just said as nicely as I could, "The info on the rubies is only for members of the sorority. I'm sorry I can't say more." I think the look on my face (I have a hard time hiding what I'm thinking) has kept her from addressing anything Greek with me again.

I don't know how funny it was, but a dude that was trying to talk to me was reading my shirt. That day I was at a picnic and wearing my AKA shirt with it spelled out. So he nodded at me, leaned back casually and said, "so you're an Alpha Kappa Alpha huh? My brother is one of those too." I was never really clear on whether he was just that clueless/stupid or if he meant his brother was a Miaka. I could only walk off at that point. My friends were CRACKING up.

I was at work on a kasual day and I was wearing my Phi Nu Pi hoodie in krimson and kream. So, my female friend (we've work together at another company and is part of business fraternity) komes up and says "OHHH....I like your letters...hold on...Those aren't the right colors and those aren't the right letters!" I sercetly died inside of laughter.
