I think some chapters consider pref to be semi-ritual. I live with a woman from a different sorority and thats sort of the impression I got from her.

No doubt that preference is ritual-like, but non-members (as in, not even pledged to protect ritual) view a chapter's preference ceremony. If you're going to extremes to protect your chapter's preference ceremony, good luck with that. What about the PNMs that attend your preference but don't join your chapter? Are they bound to secrecy of your preference ceremony? Uh, no. If you are taking elements of your preference ceremony from your ritual book, I'm sure someone from your HQ would like to have a chat with you.
