Am I missing something? What's wrong with posting preference pictures?

I think some chapters consider pref to be semi-ritual. I live with a woman from a different sorority and thats sort of the impression I got from her.

No doubt that preference is ritual-like, but non-members (as in, not even pledged to protect ritual) view a chapter's preference ceremony. If you're going to extremes to protect your chapter's preference ceremony, good luck with that. What about the PNMs that attend your preference but don't join your chapter? Are they bound to secrecy of your preference ceremony? Uh, no. If you are taking elements of your preference ceremony from your ritual book, I'm sure someone from your HQ would like to have a chat with you.

Thinking back to when I went through recruitment and went to ZTA's pref and how sentimental it seemed to be for all of the members, if I had been a member I would not have wanted to be the girl told, "Why don't you just take the pictures?"

We don't take pictures of the ceremony itself, that would be kinda tacky, but we always have a big chapter picture after preference in our black dresses. I would have no qualms about telling people what goes on in my chapter's preference ceremony. In fact, I already detailed it in my recruitment story.

well obviously girls who are not members see the ceremony and can tell anyone anything about it but we still dont really over share it I guess. I dont know. Its somewhat ritual plus we break down really fast after to take everything over for bid day so its not really picture time. Its also like super stressful right before pref cause we are waiting on lists and such. We just dont do it. I dont know...maybe to leave an element of surprise for pnms...

Yea, I think it's weird too to try and make pref secretive. We take photos before/after/setting up/etc and I've told people what we do for preference. I feel like its pretty much what every other chapter on campus is doing anyway.

I think also that part of it is, if you have a great pref that really reels them in...you certainly don't want to give your secrets away to other chapters. ;)

And yeah, after pref, we would be so bleeping stressed all we wanted was to put on sweats and go to sleep.

My chapter always takes pictures after prefs just because everyone looks so pretty, and we're all together. But there are no pictures of the pref ceremony itself. It's not that it's strictly ritual, but there is sort of an unspoken agreement that we don't share what goes on at other houses' ceremonies, but that's easy to do at my school because there are only 4 houses!
