Seriously? What did Favre actually "put them" (meaning the front office) through?

The team has to draw up two contingency plans, sure - one with Favre and one without. That is not exactly rocket science. All the cap issues are the same, there isn't any real downside (two NFL-caliber starters is a "problem" anyone would love to have), and the team had every opportunity to sign a new starter to take his place and make the whole thing moot from 2004 to today.

His teammates don't care - see Al Harris's "I'm a captain, and I speak for the team - we'd welcome him back with open arms" speech - and the "media circus" lasts, what, 3 weeks during training camp? Seriously. Camp. Not even the voluntary offseason activities, that are way more important for implementing a system.

Add to this the exceptional amount of money and prestige that Favre has brought to the organization, and the front office comes out WAY on top in this deal, regardless of the "will he/won't he" thing. Indeed, the same thing that made him a great quarterback makes it hard for him to retire.

Looks like they finally wised up this year and went with the "without Favre " Plan eh?

Yeah - and they went 13-3 last year with the "other" plan, and will be insanely lucky to go 8-8 this year with the "without" plan.

So yeah - is the "circus" worth FIVE wins?

It would have been worth it 3 or 4 years ago.....think about it....how many playoffs and Super Bowls has Favre gotten them to every since the R word started getting tossed around? If Last season was like the 06 season, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.

Since their last Super Bowl in 97...... 5 or 6 playoff appearances and MOST of those are Wild Card wins.....

The '06 season only matters because it shows that he was correct to return in '07 in spite of front office pressure.

Favre is an aging, somewhat overrated but still Hall of Fame-caliber QB, while Aaron Rogers has put up middling (and largely meaningless) numbers when he's worn his helmet. Unless you think getting those snaps would have reversed Aaron Rogers' fortunes (which even the GB front office seemed to disagree with up until this season), I simply can't imagine what argument you're really trying to make.

There is probably a <10% chance that Aaron Rogers EVER has a season like Favre's 2007, not to mention the 4000 yd/30 TD season he put up in 2004, when you think he should have retired the first time.

Green Bay is clearly building for a Favre-less future - but they're so convinced that Aaron Rogers will lead that future that they drafted Brian Brohm just a couple of months ago. This is only a detriment for the FO because they made it one themselves - putting this on Favre is short-sighted and foolish.

Ksig...no rookie since Dan Marino has ever put up numbers like he did..so we agree on that...

I dont think Favre is overrated BTW....he is just a big flip flopper....and no...drafting another QB was brilliant....they are doing what u just said they did...they were planning for No Favre...meaning...they are bringing Rodgers up and protecting their season...however, they still need a veteran presence on the team....who knows...Duante Culpepper still needs a job....heh!
