Not meaning to look beyond his many other achievements, Shaft is one of those iconic songs -- not only as a hit on the charts, but also as the theme of the movie.
His is a great loss.

Let me clarify. It's not like I was reading to specifically find out his death...I was browsing for celeb news/gossip and happened upon it. Then I went to CNN.com to verify that it was true b/c I didn't want to post something that may be speculation. So I hope that makes sense and you don't think that I think Perez is news, b/c obviously it's not. I was just stating my information.
