I use salt on my popcorn. Very little, but I use it. The kind of salt I'm talking about is more of a softer substance of salt. It's movie theater salt. It's usually in a silver container with a handle, not your typical table salt shaker. The movie theater salt is more like a powder than regular salt. That's the salt I'm used to when I go to a movie. I don't know what it's called, but it's great on popcorn.

I think it's pretty tacky to have table salt in a typical salt shaker at a movie theater, and it's not as good as the salt I was talking about. I'm surprised you don't know the difference between the two.

Brand name is Seasonol, and you won't find it in the grocery store. You might find it in a wholesale place that sells popcorn supplies...sometimes Sam's Club has it.
Usually about a heaping teaspoon is added to a cup of popcorn (these are for theatre-sized kettles)...more if you want to sell more drinks!
It's REALLY bad for blood pressure, so don't eat it every day and on everything. A little goes a long way. As cheerfulgreek says, it's a fine powder.

Aw, cheerfulgreek, give her a break! Most people don't know the difference.

You're kidding right? Seriously, you guys have never used the movie theater salt? They don't have it where you are? That's SO bizarre, and I find that hard to believe. You guys think they're the same and they're not. One is used on table food and the other is used for popcorn. My God! Someone on this message board has to know what I'm talking about.

I know the difference...see my response about Seasonol, quoted in your message...the result of growing up in movie theatres that my dad ran...
Another thing...true movie theatre popcorn is popped in coconut oil. It has the best flavor...canola and peanut oil is yukky for popcorn. Of course, coconut oil is the oil highest in cholesterol!

FWIW, you can buy movie popcorn salt (butter-flavored, cheese, or plain) at most grocery stores. If you really want the $1.00 experience at home, I have no idea on how to get your shoes sticky enough, though!

How does coconut oil have any cholesterol at all? It's pretty high in saturated fat, but it can't possibly have a lick of cholesterol. It's also going to have nearly the same number of calories as any other oil.

To quote others on GC: "RIF!" I said I don't put salt on my popcorn at the theatre. That's if I even buy popcorn at the theatre. The popcorn is usually plenty salty for me as it is.
