The $1.00 show vs. regular price.
I posted a movie thread a long time ago, but do any of you go to the $1.00 show? How do you like it compared to the normal theaters?
Do you prefer the dollar theaters since they're cheaper, or do you prefer the regular priced ones? If a movie is no longer playing at the normal movie theaters then I would rather wait until it arrives on DVD. There's always something gross at the cheap $1.00 movie theaters for some reason. Like, last night I went to see 10,000 BC again. It was only a dollar. I was bored so I decided to see it again. I usually don't go to the dollar theaters because everytime I go, it either smells bad, people keep talking, or they provide table salt for the popcorn. Well to make a long story short, I went in and came right back out, because it smelled like urine inside the theater. I thought that was so gross. From now on I'm just sticking to DVD if I want to see it again or miss it in the normal theaters. Has this ever happened to anyone? It seems like all of the $1.00 theaters here and every other place I've been are disgusting. I mean, I know it's only a dollar so I don't expect a huge theater or anything, but at least have the right kind of salt and a clean theater. |

The bargain theatres up here (the few we have) are more like $2.50 and they're actually fine. The seats are more worn out and the sound system isn't always as modern, but if you wanted to see a movie in the theatre and didn't get the chance, or you just want the theatre experience, it works. |
The dollar theater is more popular than the regular theaters around here. :)
I love the dollar theater because most movies aren't MUST SEES to me. The dollar theater is about 1.50 per ticket and it basically looks and operates like the other theaters. When a really good horror or comic book-themed movie (or Sex In the City) comes out that I must see when it comes out, I'll spend the extra bucks. Other than that, dollar me up! |
I don't mind the $1.00 movie for matinees, but by the evening, they're usually pretty nasty. I try to avoid any place where my shoes stick to the floor! :p
That said, it also depends on the movie. Some movies are just no suitable for the TV screen, so if it means the dollar show, bring it on! |
There's a dollar movie in my area that's awesome! It is extremely clean, has good food - a little cheaper than usual - and is generally packed. Really, it is kept up better than the mainstream expensive theatres around. It 's a great place to catch a movie that you missed the first time around.

When I lived in L.A. once in a while I'd go to the dollar theatre but it was pretty gross. The popcorn was always stale and I never wanted to touch the seats. ick! I haven't found any dollar theatres in my new area but I'm not really looking for them either.
Netflix suits me just fine. |
Most movies simply aren't worth $10. I'd rather pay $1...that way, if it's a lousy movie, I'm not out much.
But it doesn't matter...our $1 theatre (which was beginning to be overrun with illegal Latinos) closed several years ago. :( |

I think it's pretty tacky to have table salt in a typical salt shaker at a movie theater, and it's not as good as the salt I was talking about. I'm surprised you don't know the difference between the two. |

Usually about a heaping teaspoon is added to a cup of popcorn (these are for theatre-sized kettles)...more if you want to sell more drinks! It's REALLY bad for blood pressure, so don't eat it every day and on everything. ;) A little goes a long way. As cheerfulgreek says, it's a fine powder. Quote:

see, there go the CGs confusing me again. ;)
we dont have $1 shows up this way. i wanna say there is a $2 or $5 spot in BK on Tuesdays (i think there are few Brooklyn/NYC folk on here that may vouch for it) but i have not seen such magical place. its probably behind HPRL. |

Me personally, I have a home theater so if I miss it, I can always catch it once it hits DVD especially since turnaround is faster now...I sometimes have issues going to regular theaters because some people don't know how to act...so sometimes I can only imagine how folks treat the dollar theaters..so sometimes I am better off at home! |
