What do "predominantly" and "mostly" mean as it relates to not being used to being around black people or not being able to relate to black people?

Meaning.... she grew up with limited exposure to AfAm culture, never really hung out with any other black girls, had little to nothing in common with other black people, etc.
ETA: And consequently would not feel at home in an NPHC sorority.

Sucks to be her.
But "predominantly" and "mostly" don't have to mean that. When people allow it to mean that, that's their fault.

Membership in an NPHC org isn't a requirement for being black.
As long as these people have a sense of identity and aren't pursuing an NPC org for the aforementioned reasons, it is what it is. It is what it is, anyway.

So are you saying that someone who grows up in a white community goes to white schools, has white friends, etc is better off in a NPC? I would think (coming from my background) they would want to be in NPHC to meet other blacks and possibly learn more about their culture and heritage. I mean how long can one person go without wanting to meet people of their own race? Note: This is not an implication of selling out.

No.
I'm saying that they might feel more comfortable and at home in an NPC org.

I spent a large chunk of my life in predominately white neighborhoods, but I wouldn't have been comfortable in an IFC fraternity. Yea, it's good to be around people who you're most comfortable with, but your entire life shouldn't be defined by your fraternity. I joined my organization (LGLO) because I believed in the values and ideals. I still hang out with people of every race and utilize the proper resources when I want to educate myself on my own culture.

Oh no.
What's worse than educating white people on black people and basic black history is educating young adult black people on black people and basic black history. I'd rather these blacks get a clue and THEN decide whether or not the NPHC purposes of sister/brotherhood and service fit them.
Plus, I've never met a black person who has never met a black person, even if they were adopted by nonblack parents or something. There are whites who have never met blacks or other nonwhites but rarely nonwhites who can say the same.

Lol, funny you say this, because I actually have a good high school friend of mine who fits the bill pretty much and she told me a few months back that she wants to pursue membership in an NPHC sorority.
I was like .. And then she told me which one it is, and again I was like .
I never pictured her in an NPHC org. But I hope she does well and I'm eager to find out if she finally decides to pursue this org and, eventually, if she makes it in.

Good luck to her. Hundreds of ladies pursue membership every year. Not all of them make it.

Okay so what you're saying is that some of these young black people have NO IDEA about their own culture when joining?

Which culture?
Blacks aren't a monolithic group.
This is making my head hurt.
