@srmom I guess that I would say, given my knowledge of history, that things may look different now, but they are in many ways the same as they were centuries even millennia ago. If that video is more indicative of "going to hell in a handbasket," than centuries of genocide not to mention all of the other crimes against humanity perpetrated on every continent then....

I saw this on the news and was deeply disturbed. This happened in a highschool in full view of teachers. You are a teacher, what would be your reaction? I think we are in a full moral decline, and unfortunately, with the advent of the internet and 24 news stations, we are bombarded with that fact continuously.

These things are the decline of American culture, many people claiming to be the messiah, but sexually molesting people. first off...Puerto Rico is a commonwealth and has no vote in the general election, they can only vote in the primaries, just like all the other Territories the US has.

The reason why the NAACP was created was because back then, blacks didnt have a fair chance, so we needed an organization that would help level the playing field. and FYI, the naacp was NOT founded by black folks, it was founded by a few white jewish folk. SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!! i personally think the naacp is irrelevant now, but you know what, its better than having nothing tho.

and the reason for affirmative action is, because even though we're still in 2008, its still hard for qualified black folks to get positions. i'm not saying just hire any random black person, especially if there's someone more qualified than that person, but damn, without Aff. Action, we(black folks) would have even more odds stacked against us in the workforce.

Decline of america??? how bout the decline of america started when YOUR forefathers had slaves and was treating them worse than 2nd class citizens. Or about when companies place more value in the amount of money they make, and cutting down on overhead than in loyalty to & the welfare of their employees. Gays in america & fraternities/sororities is the least of the problems.

You mention the media and I wonder if the sense of the moral decline of the nation is not intensified by the real-time nature of our society or our media's voyeuristic fascination with all things degrading. For every story like this, there are many more cases of students that are not acting inappropriately; however, these are the ones that get publicity and attention.

My sense is that much of what we see today has been around as long as there have been humans, (much not all) but that we are just seeing more of it these days.

I love a good argument -- I argue for a living. Lots of folks here love a good argument. But if you're going to make a claim, be ready to (1) back it up, and (2) explain exactly what you mean.
