Would you date someone with the same first name as yours?

With some of the gender neutral names out there, it is not impossible to find someone of the opposite sex with the same name. Obviously, this can happen in same sex couples too. I knew a few.

Would this be a turn-off? A turn-on? Have you done it before?

my name is definitely female, i dont think there's a male equivalent (you know like Michael/Michelle).

but in HS i went to school with a Pirouette (who went by Perry) and dated a guy who went by Perry (i forget what his real name was). i dont think it caused problems.

now what about same last names or names of ex's?

One of the little boys I babysat for married the girl next door last year. His last name is Kristin, her first name is Kristin. She's hyphenating her last name.

As for me...since I've never met a boy named Sue, and I highly doubt anyone would use my maiden name for a first name, I never had to worry about it.

Glad she's hyphenating her last name lol....

Anyone here watch "Trading Spaces"? Paige Davis, the host...I remember her "Wedding Story" episode on TLC, from when she got married. Her real first name is Mindy Paige (which she said sometimes she goes by Mindy, sometimes Paige, sometimes Mindy Paige), but her husband's last name is Page. So her name is Paige Page. Not sure I'd like that.

This made me think of the Johnny Cash song "Boy Named Sue." Hilarious!

Gosh, if my husband had my name as his last name then I simply wouldn't take it. It's not worth the effort. He can have that, and for obvious reasons.

I know there are boys out there with my name...would I date one of them? No. The type that tend to have my name are definitely not my type.

My name is very female, so this isn't an issue.

As far as names of ex bf's- I don't care. It's not like they'll behave the same because they have the same name.

My name is also very feminine... no chance of meeting a guy with that name or even anything similar.

Along the same line of questioning... how about seriously dating someone whose name rhymes with yours (think "Julia Goulia" in The Wedding Singer)? This happened to a friend of mine... and she wound up marrying the guy. She has a totally cheeseball name, but has a fantastic husband, so I guess it all worked out okay.

My name rhymes! Well, not my full name. My last name rhymes with Jess. It used to irritate me in middle school, but I kind of like it now. People remember me. I know a Jen Hren (her maiden name) and a Janice Kaplanis (her married name). I think one-syllable rhymes aren't as weird as multi-syllables ones.

Dating a Jesse would be okay, since I do not go by Jessie, though it'd annoy me if other people call him Jess.

Dating someone with my Dad's name would be weird for sure, though Larry isn't very common in my age group, so probability is on my side. I don't get along with my one brother, so Daniel/Dan would be tough, too.

It would never happen. I have a hard enough time finding other women with my name, let alone a man.

Although I do know a Kelly (Male) and Kelly (Female) that were engaged. There are "partners" across the street from me that have the same name, but they are of the same sex (Sue and Susan).

Seeing as a male with my first name would be a nancy-boy, I'm gonna go with no.

No chance a male would have my first name either, but I do have a friend whose maiden name was Kim and she married someone with the last name of Kim. I was so jealous she didn't have to go through all the name-change rigamarole!

My bf and I are Chris and Kristen. People don't usually catch on unless they meet us both at the same time.

I also have a friend named Mai. I guess she was seriously dating a guy whose last name was Mai. I'm not sure how he spelled it but srsly? Mai Mai!

A boy named Sue? What would you do? I think I'd die! LOL.. couldn't resist.

My mom had a friend, Georgette who married George George. So they were George and Georgette George.

As a Denise, I would probably feel weird getting serious with a Dennis in part because sales people always ask for Dennis on the phone and that would make me nuts, not knowing who they wanted to talk to. On the flip side, he would get all the phone solicitor calls, so that wouldn't be so bad.

Honestly, I'd find it irritating. I like having an unusual name, mostly because I always know that if someone calls my name they're looking for me. I don't know how the six Stephanies in my undergraduate chapter put up with it!
