For example DSTRen, may have been told not to wear black, because the members would be wearing black at the RUSH and it was a matter of distinction.
Very honestly, imo, this whole prohibition of colors (which did not exist when I was a RUSHEE) is just another way to pre-reject folx.

I did not know there was an issue with aspirants wearing black because at the rushes I attended Sorors did not wear black. A couple of rushees wore red. The Sorors glanced but didn't make a big deal. It did not hurt the young ladies' chances because they were stellar women (and are now stellar Sorors).
Black or grey was a first choice for me as an aspirant because I assumed the Deltas would wear red. I did not want to appear presumptuous or disrespectful. I also didn't want aspirants coming to me asking for applications or anything
. We weren't told what not to wear, they just trusted that we'd have common sense not to wear red--and even wanted to see what colors we'd choose on our own. They just told us business attire/business casual.
