Truth: is it the grammar? That is NOT my strong suit and I really suck at it. I work very hard to craft my sentences properly...

This is deja vu`.
I stepped away from the thread and came back with renewed patience. I now see what you were saying. I don't disagree with you, necessarily. I just don't see your goal. Is it to do away with these words? Bury the "nappy" word?

Bury words, no. But to realize "meaning" behind "these" words--one's that are designed to subjugate us. Whether we like it or not, "we" are still defined what OTHERS say, regardless of how strong we "think" we are.
Quote:
If it may be said of the slavery era that the white man took the world and gave the Negro Jesus, then it may be said of the Reconstruction Era that the Southern aristocracy took the world and gave the poor white man Jim Crow. ... And when his wrinkled stomach cried out for the food that his empty pockets could not provide, he ate Jim Crow, a psychological bird that told him that no matter how bad off he was, at least he was a white man, better than the black man.
...
And his children, too, learned to feed upon Jim Crow, their last outpost of psychological oblivion.

I think that mission was accomplished before you began typing.
At the end of the day, I'd rather those who are "nappy" in the African diaspora (because not everyone is) to own this and not be ashamed of it. If they called it "thick and beeded scalped," the point is all the same. You can't stop people (including OTHERS) from thinking or saying whatever they choose, you can focus on how to address it when it begins to pose a problem. That's why there's a difference between "racism defined as hurt feelings" and "racism defined as negatively influencing life chances."

How much progress has been made for ourselves?

Michael Richards, Don Imus or "Jim Crow" were not trying to "hurt feelings". They did not give a rat's ass about their target's feelings. Whether they like realize it or not, they were "negatively influencing life's chances" through dogmatic obtrusive dehumanization. Then for at least "Mikey" and "Donnie", they met with Jesse and Al to "relieve" themselves of their hatred pangs.
What makes it worse is when these fools use these words publicly, the redeem themselves with Jesse or Al, kids are watching and so are others who make policy. Redemption should NOT be an arbiter through undesirables, redemption should have meaning in one's heart if they truly want to be forgiven...
At least the Klan will do that crap up front close and personal. Which is worse?
I have fought with the Klan, face to face, word for word. As my ancestors and parents are. I ain't skurred of 'em. But what about these kids today?

Actually, I kinda disagree...any man who hides behind his wife's or mama's good sheets and too scared to say how he feels to my face or too scared to say or do something without a rabble and some cops who feels likewise is a coward to me.

That's what the Klan said when I fought with them and the National Guard was between us... Besides, there are skinheads that just wear jeans, t-shirt and steeltoed boots, and Dr. Duke wears a suit...

Some Klan members wear sheets and some wear suits (and you would never know they were Klan members). They often march without their faces covered.
Whatever the case may be, they get no props from me.
