That's exactly what I was thinking of - thanks for clearing that up. LXA SE285, one of my HS friends goes to Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, and they have the same rules that you mentioned.
LOL at the PCC/Bob Jones smackdown. The worst part about that article, though, is hearing about students who think they have a degree that means something and them finding out that they're screwed because the college wasn't accredited. I'm sure a lot of students went there w/ the purest of motives and to take their money like that is just horrible.

Yeah, and if students discover that they can't deal with all the rules and quit/get expelled, they usually have to start completely over at a new school because none of their credits will transfer.
You know it's the lunatic fringe when they chastise BJU for being too liberal!

I have a cousin that went to a non-accredited bible college and graduated with a degree in Elementary Ed. She was able to teach in church schools, but not in public schools. When she tried to switch to a public school after 10 yrs in a church school, the school district told her that her "degree" was meaningless and she wasn't even qualified to be a substitute teacher (which requires some college but not a degree).
The church school wouldn't let her continue teaching there because she was a bad example to the kids since she was getting divorced.

Ugh! Why do people attend non-accredited colleges? It's a waste of money and time.

I believe she went there based on guidance from her then pastor. Neither of her parents went to college and they were very involved in their church. So they went to the person they trusted, the pastor.
Does she regret it as a 40 something woman? Probably yes. But when she was 18 and didn't know any better?

I think most kids don't even think about things like accreditation when they're in high school...I didn't. I just assumed that a college degree was a college degree, and though a degree from one school may be clearly better than another, it never ocurred to me that some degrees may not even be honored.

I've always wondered how churches with this policy interpret Psalm 150. Anyone know? /hijack

My Assembly of God grandmother used to live next door to an older CoC couple, which made for some heated religious debates. One time she and the husband were arguing about the no-music-in-church thing, and he said, "The Bible doesn't say you can have musical instruments in church." Granny, fed up, shot back, "Well, it doesn't tell you to go to the bathroom either, but you go, don't you?"

Love it. When my cranking Great Grandmother hit her 90s, she had one of her friends (a very religious woman, but I can't remember the church) over for Sunday dinner. Now Grandma K never missed a Sunday service at her Lutheran church. When she saw all of the food that this 96 year old woman prepared, her comment was something like, "bless God for preparing all of this food". Grandma K was never a person to mince words, particularly at that age. All that came out of her mouth was, "God had nothing to do with it and he didn't help me peel the potatoes either."
