Since I started the hijack, let me add this: Those are old rules. Female students can wear pants to class now. I don't know about the shorts. The rules about dorm room visitations still apply.
And, like PeppyGPhiB said, one of the prevailing attitudes of the administrations is that your actions speak loudly. Or, as Momma always said: "Be careful how you act. You may be the only Bible that some people read." (Come to think of it, that is a good idea for Greeks. "Be careful how you act. You may be the only XYZ that some people see.")
And, if you don't agree with the rules, choose to do what I did: Go somewhere else.
Does Brigham Young Univ. still make their students sign a pledge saying that they will refrain from drinking, premarital sex, ect? See- we aren't the only ones.
ETA to respond to 33girl. It's churches of Christ (and yes, church is not capitalized for a reason). Churches of Christ are non-denominational. There is no governing body. Each is independent of the other.

And there are three Churches of God, based in Anderson, Indiana; Charleston, Tennessee; and Cleveland, Tennessee. The latter two are Pentecostal denominations that traditionally have forbidden women to cut their hair and wear jewelry, makeup, and pants (though I think they've relaxed those rules some in recent years).

Yes, Brigham Young still makes students sign a pledge. And some of the Church of Christ and other religious schools do, too.
Church of Christ IS its own denomination, but it is not to be confused with the United Churches of Christ, which is considerably more liberal. You're right, though, that CoC are independent of each other and they have no governing body the way, say, Catholics, Lutherans or Presbyterians do. They also do not have formal clergy; members of the congregation are considered ministers. The denomination is fairly evangelical and their worship style adheres to the Bible...no musical instruments in church, and women do not have a leadership role in the church.
I could never have gone to a school that imposed all those rules on its adult students. But there are a lot of students at Pepperdine that complain about the "dry" policy on campus and the three religion classes everyone has to take - and to them, I can only say, Why didn't you read all the materials, Web site, application, etc. the school sends out, because it's ALL in there. Like you said, people should make sure they understand the way a school works before they sign up!

That's exactly what I was thinking of - thanks for clearing that up. LXA SE285, one of my HS friends goes to Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, and they have the same rules that you mentioned.
LOL at the PCC/Bob Jones smackdown. The worst part about that article, though, is hearing about students who think they have a degree that means something and them finding out that they're screwed because the college wasn't accredited. I'm sure a lot of students went there w/ the purest of motives and to take their money like that is just horrible.

Yeah, and if students discover that they can't deal with all the rules and quit/get expelled, they usually have to start completely over at a new school because none of their credits will transfer.
You know it's the lunatic fringe when they chastise BJU for being too liberal!

I have a cousin that went to a non-accredited bible college and graduated with a degree in Elementary Ed. She was able to teach in church schools, but not in public schools. When she tried to switch to a public school after 10 yrs in a church school, the school district told her that her "degree" was meaningless and she wasn't even qualified to be a substitute teacher (which requires some college but not a degree).
The church school wouldn't let her continue teaching there because she was a bad example to the kids since she was getting divorced.

Ugh! Why do people attend non-accredited colleges? It's a waste of money and time.

I believe she went there based on guidance from her then pastor. Neither of her parents went to college and they were very involved in their church. So they went to the person they trusted, the pastor.
Does she regret it as a 40 something woman? Probably yes. But when she was 18 and didn't know any better?

I think most kids don't even think about things like accreditation when they're in high school...I didn't. I just assumed that a college degree was a college degree, and though a degree from one school may be clearly better than another, it never ocurred to me that some degrees may not even be honored.
