We called Alphas frat and they called us sorors, I work with an Alpha and he calls me soror and I call him frat, thats how it was at my HBCU.

We also usually in Pan-Hel meeting would refer to people in other organizations as soror in the third person.

I was responding to the main topic

Hey, how are doing? I was responding to one of my Eastern Star Sistars, I thought it would have showed it. I was saying that I never heard of a Eastern Star sister calling a member of a sorority a soror. We don't even call each other sorors.

As an Eastern Star and AKA I can totally agree that Eastern Stars call each other 'sisters' and AKAs say 'sorors.' Now I have heard the term 'distant sand' in which two different greek organizations cross around the same time or in the same year. Has anyone else heard that?

Please review your official documents. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. official stance on such terms have been changed. On GC we are unable to discuss the reasons.

*waving* Hi my SiStar!!!

I have heard Greeks that crossed (late 1980s and 1990s) the same semester call each other Pseudo (as in pseudo sand). BUT, as AKA_Monet stated, the D9's stance on such terms and activities has changed. That's just what I heard back in the day.

Hmm for example the national president of Zeta Phi Beta worked on our campus whenI was in school, so if we were in Pan-hel meeting we might say their president "Soror Carpenter", maybe it was just SU? We did not use it often but sometimes in cases like that we would.

Although I was not in the NPHC as an undergrad, the same applied there at public events. For example, at the annual "Meet the Greeks" everyone on the program was given the title "Soror" or "Frater."

I'm my chapter's representative to the NPHC, and this is how we refer to each other during meetings.

I refer to members of Phi Beta Sigma as my Frat, and am called Soror nikki1920 by them in return.

This is definitely interesting...

A little history about sistersoror.

In 1988 or 1989 the D4s sponsored a Black Women Political Action forum in DC. It was decided there to call each other sistersoror. The forums were then replicated in various cities across the country and the term sistersoror continued to be used.

When I first came on GC, I used the term but noticed it wasn't reciprocated. Then I saw folx saying sistergreek, so that is what I now say. I actually prefer it, because I do think that the term soror should be reserved for members of the same sorority.

BTW, at the Klave this summer the heads of the D4 did not refer to each other as soror. Usually they would say greek sister or sistergreek.

The only time I use the term Soror is when I am addressing a Gamma Sig, ain't that right, Soror Gammagirl?

I do use discretion on which Gamma Sigs I address as such, 'cause not all of them are down with the 25/52 program and those "sorors" () may wind up looking at me all sideways and whatnot.

As a Kappa, I don't address any given sorority member as "soror". At best I address them as "Greek" (read: What's up, Greek?). Besides, it's a unisex term that can be used to address male and female Greek members. Besides, we love 'em all so much that we can't settle for just one organization (Crimson and Cream, Diamonds and Pearls, Indiana Love, or Z Phi Nu Pi, it's all brother and sister love AFAIC).

Inside the org, I casually address brothers as "Nupe" or "Phi", unless they hold an office. I seldom address any brother as "Frat". Nupe just seems more personal and unique anyway.

Interesting, thanks.
