I'm not sure as to how I feel about this. It was said in a 'haughty' way.

My question is, how do you respond to a Eastern Star that calls you soror :confused:

I almost stepped out of myself and sent her a private message....but I'm calm now :o

Don't know if this helps or not, but at the 2004 Boulé in Nashville, the presidents of Sigma Gamma Rho, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta were all there at one of the meetings, and they all called then President Soror Linda White "Soror". She responded in kind.

My sorors are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. That's about it.

Many Fab4 women call each other SisterSoror or SisterGreek (I don't). However, the Eastern Star is taking it to a whole 'nother level :confused:

Interesting thread. I've heard of SisterGreek and Anti-Soror, but I've never heard of SisterSoror. Different strokes for different folks.

First of all, since the Eastern Stars are not a greek organization, I don't even know why she would be using the term. Must be a new thing. My great aunt is a very high ranking member in IL and I have never heard such nonsense come out of her mouth. Just look at her like she's crazy and keep going. LOL.

Is the person a member of AKA? Did we get that established? Maybe the lady recently crossed. :confused:

If she isn't a member, I'd look at her all cross eyed (as folks say) and move on. :p

I have never heard SisterSoror and I only use SisterGreek on GC. If it were a universal thing that would be different, but since it is not I think that Soror should only be used for members of ones own Sorority.

If someone called me SisterGreek IRL I wouldn't be offended and would return the favor.


I think it is strange when men call me Soror. This Alpha that teaches at my schoool said, "Good morning Soror" I was like:eek::confused: and I just said Hello, but I thought that was strange!!!

Well It was on this website called blocksavvy....She sent me a comment that said "Welcome soror!" ....I looked at her profile and I saw Alpha Kappa Alpha in nothing. So I responded with "Soror?!?!?! Huh?" She deleted my comment but proceeded to put up art with an Eastern Star teaching D9 sororities. Again this was done in a haughty way....but I'll leave her be. She's crazy though.

As an member of OES I know for a fact that we don't address each other as "soror" anyway. So I'm :confused: myself.

As everybody already said, give her the :confused: face and keep it moving!

I've heard some say that the Masons were the 1st "real fraternity" so maybe that's why she feels the entitlement to say Soror.

I dunno. . .

Okay - going back to these "I-don't-know-what-I-wanna-take-but-I'll-hold-onto-the-schedule-and-fake-like-I'm-looking-through-it" students.

All the Alphas I know call me "Soror" and all the AKAs I know call Alphas "Frat"...I didn't know that was different in different places. :)

Same here Soror. I actually like being called "soror" by frat.

I'm always very careful about that. Since I came in through an alumni chapter, I am mostly around grad chapter ladies. And you never know how or when someone was brought in, so I wait for the woman to call me frat first before I call her soror. Last thing I want is to be clowned by an old soror. :(

I'm also the same way about hugging AKAs I don't know. I ALWAYS extend my hand first. Sometimes the ladies will look at me with the screw face and say "We fam, fam hugs!" But I know my frat be getting their grope on sometimes, so I make sure to err on the side of a gentleman.
